Tenn. Expands HOPE Program; Georgia Seeks to Guard Funds
The political popularity of merit-based scholarships has prompted both new efforts to protect funds for the HOPE program in Georgia and the expansion of eligibility for a similar program in Tennessee.
Gov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia, a Republican, has called for a Constitutional amendment preventing state legislators from using revenue from the state lottery for anything other than the scholarships and pre-kindergarten programs.
