Television Report Blames Teacher Shortages on Poor Education Schools
Are colleges of education contributing to a teacher shortage?
Federal officials have warned of a looming problem, but a television-news report says the causes may be more complex than teacher retirements and swelling school enrollments.
John Merrow, a PBS journalist, says inadequate teacher-training programs may be partly to blame, along with flawed hiring practices in some school districts.
