Teaching Assistants Strike at Urbana-Champaign
Teaching assistants at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign held a two-day strike last month to protest the administration's refusal to recognize their union.
Some classes were canceled as a result of the strike. Members of the Graduate Employees' Organization, which planned the walkout, said that 10,000 students had had one or more classes canceled. The university said that the number was much lower, but declined to give an estimate.
