Teaching Accreditor Issues New Standards

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education has released new standards that will require colleges to account for their graduates' performance as schoolteachers, to provide adequate financing for teacher training, and to collaborate with elementary and secondary schools.

The standards, approved by the council's board in May, will be required of all teacher-training programs seeking initial or renewed accreditation beginning in the fall of 2001.
