Tax Breaks, Not Student Aid
To the Editor:
The Hope and Lifetime Learning tax credits should be viewed as what they are -- middle-class tax breaks, not programs designed to assist needy students ("Dashed Hopes for Increasing Access to Higher Education," October 22). Unfortunately, they were sold as vehicles that would allow every American to go to college.
