Talking About My Generation
With the opening of the movie Pearl Harbor, a forthcoming HBO mini-series about D-Day, and a new memorial planned for the National Mall, the iconization of World War II is in full swing. By contrast, Vietnam continues to haunt the nation, as the controversy over Bob Kerrey's actions on the Mekong Delta shows. Is the current swoon over the Greatest Generation in part compensation for the Vietnam legacy? We asked three scholars to comment.
