Taking a Risk on Research
NSF is financing more projects that are less of a sure thing
Thomas S. Huang, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, sounds like a proud parent when he describes his latest research project. With a grant from the National Science Foundation, he is creating a "proactive computer" that would sense when users are struggling to operate a program, and offer helpful hints and encouragement.
