Teaching assistants at Western Michigan University voted on Thursday to unionize, joining their counterparts at the state’s other public universities. According to a news release, the vote was 290 to 14, out of about 700 eligible voters. The ballotting certified the Teaching Assistants Union, which is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, as the collective-bargaining agent.
