Syracuse University announced a $1-billion capital campaign on Friday, with more than half that amount already raised.
The university also announced the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation’s $10-million matching challenge for the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The university and the school must raise $5-million to secure the $10-million match from the foundation.
The capital campaign began in 2005 and will continue through 2012. Much of the money has already been allocated for student scholarships, endowed chairs and professorships, interdisciplinary collaborations, and community-engagement initiatives, the university said in its news release.
