Sylvan Will Buy Chilean University
Sylvan Learning Systems Inc. announced last month that it would increase its presence in the international higher-education market with a plan to pay an initial $21-million for 60 percent of Desarrollo del Conocimiento S.A., the Chilean company that owns the Universidad de Las Americas. The move comes on the heels of Sylvan's completed acquisition of controlling interests in colleges in Mexico and Switzerland.
