Surgeon General Calls on Colleges to Help Stop Underage Drinking

Colleges have an obligation to reduce the risk factors associated with underage drinking on their campuses, including sexual assault and alcohol-related accidents, according to a lengthy report released today by the U.S. surgeon general. The report, “The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking,” recommends that colleges take steps such as reinstating Friday classes, restricting or eliminating alcohol sales at sporting events, and working with the local community to minimize loud house parties and alcohol sales to underage drinkers.
