Supreme Court Will Weigh Whether Private Colleges Can Be Sued Over Privacy Law
The U.S. Supreme Court said this month that it would decide whether an individual can sue a college for violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal law that protects the privacy of student records.
The case pits Gonzaga University, in Spokane, Wash., against a graduate who says he can't get a teaching job because college officials told representatives of the state's teacher-certification office that he had been accused of raping another student.
