Supreme Court Rejects Bonfire-Accident Case

Texas A&M University at College Station has been protected from legal responsibility for the deaths and injuries caused by the 1999 collapse of a bonfire that used to be built annually to mark a key football game.

The accident resulted in 12 deaths and 27 injuries.

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case, keeping in place several rulings by lower courts that the university was protected by sovereign immunity, a longstanding legal concept that holds that
