Support Growing For Tuition in Africa

African universities are supporting a movement to introduce tuition in countries where higher education is traditionally free.

At a meeting of the Association of African Universities, in Nairobi, Kenya, this month, they adopted a resolution in support of tuition. The association, which has more than 170 member institutions from 43 countries, meets every four years.

The group's final recommendations for improving higher education in Africa are expected to include strategies that
