Suggesting the Impossible

Something was definitely lost in translation during a Malaysian parliamentary debate last month when the Malay-speaking deputy higher-education minister tried to address a Tamil opposition member in his own tongue.

What Idris Haron apparently meant to say was "sit down." But what he said instead was "go [expletive] yourself." Mr. Idris thought he was saying "ukarengeh," but, depending upon whom you believe, he said "ukker."
