Sudan Shuts Down Most Universities

Sudan's government has shut down all but one of the country's universities to mobilize students against what it calls "aggression" from neighboring Uganda and Eritrea.

Sudan's Minister for Higher Education, Ibrahim Ahmed Omar, announced at the end of September that classes would be suspended for one month, allowing students to volunteer in the government's paramilitary organization, the People's Defense Force.
