Study of Conservatives in Academe

To the Editor:

After reading Roger W. Bowen's comment about sample size in "Study Finds Conservatives Are Less Likely to Advance in Academe" (The Chronicle, April 8), I would like to suggest that he review, say, intermediate-statistics materials on the subject of sample size and generalizability.

There is nothing wrong with the reported sample size of the study and the universe it represents. ... In terms of methodology, I would characterize this as a properly done
