Study Notes Tensions Facing Public Colleges
An increasingly competitive higher-education market is putting colleges under pressure to neglect their public mission, according to a report released this month by the Futures Project, a higher-education think tank based at Brown University.
The report, based on focus-group interviews with college officials, state lawmakers, and faculty members, says providers of for-profit higher education and other competitors are eating into the profitable sectors of the market that colleges have
