Studies of Student Aid Are Few, Report Says
Research is scarce on the effectiveness of federal student-aid and tax benefits in expanding access to college and encouraging students to graduate, says a report released last week by the Government Accountability Office.
The lack of effective data makes it hard for members of Congress to assess the best ways to help students and families pay for college, the report says. The study, which is dated July 2005, comes as members of the Senate Finance Committee review ideas for changing
