Students in Washington Win Energy-Fee Dispute
The University of Washington does not have the legal authority to charge students an energy fee, a state judge ruled this month. The judge said the fee -- which would have cost students taking a full load of courses at the university's main campus about $135 per year -- amounts to a tuition increase, which can be authorized only by the state Legislature.
The university's Board of Regents decided not to appeal the ruling.
