Students Who Can't Learn College Material
To the Editor:
I was struck by Peggy Duffy's essay on "Teaching Failure" (The Review, October 12). We do students a disservice when we give them false hope, as Ms. Duffy rightly pointed out. In fact, that practice is dishonest and serves only to further damage a student's potential for growth.
After the second time the student did not pass a developmental-writing course, it was incumbent upon a teacher, an adviser, or a counselor ... to provide her with a fair analysis of her
