Amber Alstadt, a student at North Dakota State University, visited scores of classrooms at her university over the summer. The student-government president spent some 10 hours on the tours, and has several more scheduled for this fall.
But Ms. Alstadt's tours have nothing to do with scoping out possible locations of her fall-term classes. If she doesn't like what she sees—maybe the lighting is dim or there are no seats for left-handed students—Ms. Alstadt is likely to turn
