Students Find a Web Site to Be a Valuable Supplement to a Poetry Anthology
When he was editing the Anthology of Modern American Poetry (Oxford University Press, 2000), Cary Nelson found himself constantly adding footnotes to explain the poems' historical references. Divided equally among 161 poets, the collection gives each author only about seven pages -- far too little space to treat a poet's body of work, much less to give it context.
