Student Describes Nightmarish Events in German Classroom

In a New York Times interview, Trey Perkins, a student in the German class at Virginia Tech attacked on Monday by Cho Seung-Hui, describes a scene so nightmarish that it will be hard to forget.

After Mr. Cho burst into the classroom and killed the instructor, Christopher James Bishop, he turned his gun on the students, starting with those closest to him, Mr. Perkins recalled. Students tried to shield themselves with their desks.

“We got down, tried to get on the ground,” said Mr. Perkins. “There were a couple of screams, but for the most part it was eerily silent, other than the gunfire.” —Lawrence Biemiller
