Student Critic at Campus Newspaper Admits Plagiarism

A student at the University of Missouri at Kansas City has resigned from its student newspaper after being accused of plagiarizing parts of 38 movie reviews that were published in the University News over the last 13 months, according to an article in today’s Kansas City Star.

In a message to readers on Monday, the student newspaper said that it had verified 85 instances of plagiarism by the student, who had apologized for his actions. The accusation of plagiarism was made by eFilmCritic.com, a Web site that compiles reviews by a host of contributors.

A university official said that plagiarism, even on a movie review, violated the campus code of conduct, and could be grounds for expulsion. See a special report from The Chronicle for more on plagiarism.
