Student Assigned Jail Time and 5-Page Paper for Cutting Jury

A state judge last week sentenced a student at the University of Michigan at Dearborn to spend a weekend in jail and to write a five-page paper after he skipped a second day of jury duty in a two-day trial, the Associated Press reported. The prosecutor in that case said the 24-year-old student acted just as if he had been cutting class. He must write a paper on “the American dream and why jury duty is crucial,” the AP reported.
