A 27-year-old graduate student at the University of Georgia who raised a faculty member’s concerns during a meeting was arrested and involuntarily committed after he threatened campus police officers with a gun at his apartment, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
The student, Brandon Ginyard, was two weeks away from earning an M.B.A. when he was arrested Monday night by officers carrying a court order requiring him to get a psychological exam. University officials would not describe what had happened in that morning’s meeting with the faculty member other than to say that Mr. Ginyard had made “general statements we felt we needed to act on.” —Lawrence Biemiller
