A second-year freshman at the University of Mississippi has been charged with capital murder of a police officer in connection with the death of Robert Langley, a campus policeman who suffered fatal head injuries early Saturday morning as he was dragged some 200 yards by the student’s vehicle, the Associated Press reported. The student, Daniel Reed Cummings, who is 20, faces a possible death penalty or life sentence if he is convicted. The authorities seemed to suggest that the dragging happened after Mr. Langley pulled over Mr. Cummings for speeding on the campus.
