And you thought your commute was rough.
Sierra Brown, a graduate student in art at California State University at Long Beach, swam 12 miles through the polluted shipping lanes of the Port of Los Angeles one day this month to get to class. It was just the first of eight human-powered commutes that Ms. Brown plans to make from her home in San Pedro to her campus each Monday.
