'Striking' Declines Found in Arctic Ice Cover

An analysis of data compiled by nuclear submarines in the Arctic Ocean has found that the ice stretching across the waters at the top of the world is 40 per cent thinner than it was four decades ago.

The analysis was conducted by a team led by D. Andrew Rothrock, an associate research professor of oceanography at the University of Washington, and was published in the December 1 issue of the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
