Still Life With DNA

The double-helical shape of DNA is so well known that it has become iconic, perhaps even trite. But that's not how biologists see it.

At a conference in February at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, in New York, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the double helix, Peter Sherwood, a lab official, asked each of about 40 attendees to do a quick sketch of DNA. Last week, the journal Nature published some of the surprisingly varied doodles.
