Stepping Out
The discipline of dance gains a foothold in academeDancers at Florida State University still leap and pirouette in Miss Katie's Gym, though the building hardly looks like it did in the 1930s. The spacious foyer's terrazzo floors remain, but the pool where the synchronized-swimming club used to practice is now a high-tech theater, and wide halls lead from bright dance studios to fully wired classrooms. The department of dance finally has some legroom.
