Stem-Cell Advances Jump an Ethical Hurdle and Could Speed Work on Therapies
Two teams of scientists reported on Tuesday that they had developed lines of human stem cells almost identical to embryonic ones, using a procedure that does not involve destroying actual embryos—an advance that could sharply expand research into making therapies based on stem cells, they said.
Scientists predicted that the new technique would not immediately replace work with embryonic stem cells but that it could do so over time if future work with the alternative cells
