CLASS-RANK CHANGES: The Texas Senate and House of Representatives have approved two very different proposals to amend the state law that automatically admits the top 10 percent of graduates from each high school in the state to a public university. The House measure would limit the automatic admissions to 50 percent of a college's freshman class, while the Senate bill would stipulate that top-ranked students must take a required high-school curriculum to qualify for guaranteed acceptance.
