FIRST-GENERATION GRANTS: Florida students who are the first in their family to attend college could get extra financial aid under a new scholarship program. Lawmakers set aside $6.5-million to match private donations raised by state universities for scholarships. Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican, proposed the aid plan after fewer black freshmen than before enrolled at state universities last fall.
