PROPOSED MERGER: Richard L. McCormick, president of the Rutgers University system, said he supported the idea of merging his institution with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The idea of merging the two universities has gained momentum in recent months as a federal investigation continues into alleged Medicare and Medicaid fraud at the medical university. A governor's committee is studying the merger proposal.
