State Ballots for 1998 Include Measures on Bonds, Taxes, and Affirmative Action

A proposal aimed at ending racial preferences in Washington state is by far the most-visible measure on statewide ballots next month. But voters in 17 other states will also decide questions that affect academe -- from multimillion-dollar bond issues to a proposal that could close some North Dakota colleges.
