Stanford U. Will Offer New Child-Care Benefit to Junior Professors

Stanford University will begin offering junior faculty members up to $21,000 annually next fall to help pay child-care expenses for their children who are 5 years old and younger. Junior professors — including adjuncts and clinical faculty members — will be eligible for the child-care benefits if their family income is below $175,000 a year. The university will pay $5,000 to $20,000 for one child and up to $1,000 total extra for any additional children who are in child-care situations. Faculty parents will have to submit child-care receipts to receive the benefit. It was not immediately clear if other colleges offered a similar benefit. —Robin Wilson
