Southern U. at New Orleans May Have to Rebuild From Scratch

Southern University at New Orleans may need to rebuild its entire campus at an estimated cost of $300-million to $350-million because of damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, officials at the historically black institution said last week.

The campus's 11 buildings, most of which are two stories high, were flooded with 15 feet of water when two of the levees protecting New Orleans broke, said Edward R. Jackson, interim president of the Southern University System. The water level is now
