Southern Oregon University plans to cut 24 faculty jobs, including some tenure-track positions, as part of efforts to deal with a $4-million budget shortfall, according to the Mail Tribune, a newspaper in Medford, Ore.
The proposal, announced on Monday but foreshadowed by the university’s president last fall, would also cut the honors program, eliminate three majors (geography, geology, and German), and combine three schools (Arts and Letters, Social Sciences, and Sciences) into a new College of Arts and Sciences.
The cuts would also include 13 administrative positions, adding to the elimination of 17 nonacademic jobs, announced earlier this month. The university will accept comments on the proposal until February 19 and issue a revised, final plan on March 5.
