Professors at Southern Methodist University have turned thumbs down on a proposal to hold a full-faculty referendum on whether it would be acceptable for the campus to be the site of a partisan Bush Institute, part of a planned George W. Bush Presidential Library complex for which Southern Methodist is the sole finalist to serve as host institution, the Associated Press reported. The rejection dealt a blow to a petition, signed by nearly 200 faculty members, seeking a vote on the institute while endorsing the library.
