Southern Association Strips 2 Black Colleges of Accreditation
Morris Brown College, a historically black institution saddled with $23-million in debt and accused of using federal money to pay overdue bills, was stripped of its accreditation in December by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
If it stands, the decision means that Morris Brown would not be able to award federal financial aid -- a crippling blow for the Atlanta institution. Its 2,500 students depend heavily on such aid, and the funds make up more than 70 percent of
