Sonoma State Music Center Has Detractors; Duke U. Celebrates Thelonious Monk; 1950s Tourist Whimsy Lands in New York
No one doubts that the Green Music Center will have an impressive presence at Sonoma State University. But some people do question whether it should be there at all. The center's main attraction, a luminous, acoustically impeccable concert hall, will feature a retractable back wall and panoramic views of wine country. Some faculty members wonder if the regional university, with an enrollment of 8,500 students, should be devoting more than $100-million to the project.
