Some See Racism, Others See Respect in the U. of North Dakota's Sioux Name
To the Editor:
It is truly a shame that we have such arrogant and racist alumni at various institutions of higher learning ("A Battle Over a Name in the Land of the Sioux," February 23). Certainly, this is not the first example of alumni's applying pressure to a university or college to continue the use of derogatory Native American names or mascots. ... I think that it represents the typical racist response that is prevalent throughout all 50 states. ...
