Some Colleges Set Bandwidth Caps to Take Back Their Networks
When online music and movie trading began to cripple Kent State University's campus computer network, officials took note of a startling statistic: Just 10 file-swapping students were responsible for over half of the network traffic.
In response, the university adopted a policy that a growing number of colleges are considering -- setting a cap on the amount of data that students can download or send out to others in a given day.
