Sole Finalist to Be LSU's Chancellor Wins Search Committee's Assent

A search committee has unanimously recommended Mike Martin, president of New Mexico State University, as the new chancellor of Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, The Advocate, a local newspaper, reported today.

As president of New Mexico State, Mr. Martin has overseen record enrollments and growing donations, as well as good relationships with government leaders. He has also been controversial for his leadership style.

The search committee’s recommendation of Mr. Martin, who was the sole finalist, now goes to the LSU president, John V. Lombardi, for whom Mr. Martin once worked, and the LSU Board of Supervisors. —Kate Moser
