Slave Video Stirs Racial Tensions at Texas A&M U.

A student-made video that appears to depict a master-slave scene, including a beating and an actor in blackface, has stirred racial tensions to a boil at Texas A&M University at College Station, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The video, made by three white students and until last week posted on a public file-sharing Web site, was described by black students as symptomatic of a larger problem on the campus. A&M’s president, Robert M. Gates, who was nominated last week by President Bush as secretary of defense, called the video “moronic,” but another university official said it was unclear if it violated any laws or campus policies.
