Similarities in Private and Public Education

Mary Sue Coleman's essay in the October 9 issue ("Superb Education? Affordable Costs? Try Public Higher Education," Opinion) could just as easily have been titled "Superb Education? Affordable Costs? Try a Small Independent College." Several aspects of this piece, which implied that higher education in America consists of public universities and elite private institutions, disturbed me. I also
