Should Institutions Give Preference to Faculty Spouses in Hiring?

In the current academic job market, almost all new appointments necessitate a major geographical shift, and long-term geographical separation can hardly be conducive to the stability of a relationship or to the psychological health or academic productivity of the couple ("Two Academic Careers and One Fulfilling Job," Opinion, March 17). Therefore, colleges and universities should give preference to hiring academic spouses and domestic partners,
