Should Academics Speak Out Against War?

To the Editor:

As academics, our job is to unflinchingly examine ideas, evidence, and truth ("Should Faculties Take a Stand?," January 24). When we come to clear conclusions, we are bound to communicate our findings. The idea that pre-emptive strikes are a way to achieve a peaceful and just world is mistaken. The evidence for significant breaches by Iraq of the United Nations' resolutions is lacking. The truth is that a unilateral attack on Iraq would violate the very U.N. resolution
